Centro de Cultura Senior High School
A project in Cauayan City, Cagayan Valley, the new school campus of Centro de Cultura High School is inspired by its educational philosophy that nobody is good at everything but everyone is good at something. By focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses, it is this philosophy that creates the architectural form. Focusing on strengths instead of weaknesses, the vision of Centro de Cultura expresses the first concept of focus by arranging the form of the building into circular, radial shapes creating courtyards to express focus in the volume. Strength is the value that the institution upholds and it is expressed by creating weight to the circular forms, making mass as a second concept of solidity, fortitude and stability. Weakness is important such that it is the third concept that brings to light that which is opposite: strength. Thus weakness is the character foil to the architecture, a contrast to bring awareness to what is strong by exposing the weak, expressed by thin, elegant stilts that raise the volumes of strength.
